Rite of Spring
In 2013, Dana choreographed her own version of "The Rite of Spring" for Intermediate IV students. This clip is the entire dance as performed in our 2013 spring show.
The Rite of Spring is a ballet and orchestral work by Igor Stravinsky. It was written for the 1913 ballet season. The original choreography was by Vaslav Nijinsky. When first performed at the Theatre des Champs-Elysees on May 29, 1913, the avant-garde nature of the music and choreography caused a near riot in the audience. Audiences were not ready for its raw, primal, athletic, emotional, modern dance depiction. Modern Dance was being born!
